A Different Sort of Alexandria Bar
Located one block from the Potomac River on the second floor of the Crowne Plaza, the RailStop Gastropub is the ideal place to meet your Alexandria neighbors. With breathtaking views of the sparkling historic river and monuments of the Capital city, the gastro pub was created with the local neighborhood in mind as a place to gather for a relaxing pint or a bite to eat.
A step above bar or pub grub, this gastro pub specializes in high-quality food including house-made sausages of both pork and seafood. Alexandria has a long history with the railroad, dating back prior to the civil war with the Orange and Alexandria (O&A) Railroad. The RailStop Gastropub derived its name from the close proximity to the current active railroad and a recognized need for local crafted beer and cuisine.
The atmosphere is relaxed with comfortable extended, leather pin-cushion banquettes separated by etched glass partitions to cabaret table and bar seating set atop dark stained hardwood floors. The style is artful with walls decorated by vintage posters highlighting train destinations around the United States to oversized mirrors that reflect the amber light given by filament bulbs in pendant lighting. The bar top gleams as the copper inlay reflects the lighting.
Chalkboard menus surround the bar displaying the pub’s menu created by Executive Chef Mark Henry. Divided into palatable sections, bar snacks include Tots and Fried Pickles; main courses range from Steak Frites to Vegetarian Strudel; and the menu offers a tribute to classics such as the RailStop Burger with a Touch of “Smoke” to Old Dominion Lager Battered Fish and Chips offered as nightly specials.
The menu compliments the beer and wine list that stays true to pairing with the cuisine in refreshing style. The beer menu is expansive, typical of a gastro pub, specializing in micro and local brews.
